Max Blumenthal: The Witch Hunter Anoints Sarah Palin

from the comments after Max Blumenthal’s piece:

“I am disturbed, I have not heard anyone speak out against this “witch hunter” I am pulling this directly from amnesty international’s website – Africa division this is how the so called witch hunters get rid of the women accused of being a witch. “Sexual violence by weapons-bearers continues on a daily basis in eastern DRC. On 11 May 2005, a 56-year-old woman was attacked by seven FARDC (Mayi-Mayi) fighters (Congo) in her village in Fizi territory, South-Kivu province. They accused her of being a witch (féticheuse). She was beaten across her body with sticks and rifle butts, the majority of blows being directed at her stomach and genitals. She was then raped by three of the fighters. During the rape one of the men forced a piece of wood inside her vagina. The attack caused life-threatening injuries and blood loss, and the partial destruction of her internal organs.”
Please review this link regarding their treatment of Nigerian children accused of withcraft.

These women (if they survive) are shunned by family members because they too will suffer the same violent treatment. Many women are stoned to death but this is the type of “support” other women need. There version of God is very different than mine, my God would be disgusted by this treatment of his children. I believe this trumps Rev. Wright any day. “

“In case you need more information, here is another link regarding Kenyan witch hunts, a blog discussing Bishop Thomas Muthee’s ministry from a feminist point of view and the third is just loaded with disturbing information.

Burned at the Stake After Being Accused of Witchcraft | Friendly Atheist by @hemantmehta

The best description I can find of the video below says: five people suspected of witchcraft were brutally murdered — burned alive — in Nyamataro, a village in Kisii, Kenya.

The victims are the elderly (over 80) and four of the five are women.

You can see victims trying to get out of the ditch only to be pushed back in. Some victims are just kicked around. Others are beaten with a stick.

It’s the worst of human nature. To paraphrase Voltaire, when people believe absurdities, they can commit atrocities. This is a perfect example.

Which is why I am still so frightened by Sarah Palin.

Go to the link and watch it. We can not look away and pretend this does not exist.

I don’t know who Trantorian is, but this comment was brilliant.

To the Tea Party People

To the Tea Party People

You didn’t get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.
You didn’t get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.
You didn’t get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.
You didn’t get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.
You didn’t get mad when we spent over $600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn’t get mad when over 10 billion dollars simply “disappeared” in Iraq.

You didn’t get mad when you saw the Abu Grahib photos.
You didn’t get mad when you found out we were torturing people.
You didn’t get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn’t get mad when we didn’t catch Bin Laden.
You didn’t get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn’t get mad when we let a major US city drown.

You didn’t get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark during the Bush years after he inherited a surplus from Clinton.

You finally got mad when.. when… (wait for it… )

You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all okay with you- but helping other Americans… well f..k that.

That about right? You know it is.

You people have all lost your f…king minds. You are selfish, greedy, obnoxious, narcissistic, and frankly… stupid. Your pathetic little misspelled protest signs are embarrassing. Maybe you ought to find the smart person in your midst and let them make up all the signs, cause man, you look like a bunch of idiots.
(Also you’re ugly and your mother dresses you funny.)

Please Cut the Crap

In the absence of stated probable cause or a warrant, no officer of the law is entitled to anything at all from you. There is no law against being belligerent, short of assault, and there is no law against insulting a police officer. Gates was wrong to have screamed “racist” at Sergeant Crowley, but Gates did nothing to be arrested for.

This was a typical male-on-male “pork sword” fight, in which Sergeant Crowley lost, whether he realizes it or not, because he refused to defuse the situation. Instead, he let his hurt personal feelings get into the way of his law enforcement judgment, and he ended up looking foolish.

But this wasn’t racism; it’s endemic of a problem we have, in which police are given more power than they have the right to.

People don’t get it, he says. After eight murders, seventeen attempted murders, 406 death threats, 179 assaults, and four kidnappings, people are still in denial. They say, Well, this was just some wingnut guy who just decided to go blow up somebody. Wrong. This was a cold-blooded, brutal, political assassination that is the logical consequence of thirty-five years of hate speech and incitement to violence by people from the highest levels of American society, including but in no way limited to George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Jesse Helms, Bill O’Reilly, Jerry Falwell, and Pat Robertson. Reagan may not have been a fascist, but he was a tool of the fascists. George W. Bush was most certainly a tool of the fascists. They use this issue to get power. They seem civilized but underneath you have this seething mass of angry, rabid anger and hatred of freedom that is really frightening, and they support people like the guy who shot George – they’re all pretending to be upset, issuing statements about how much they deplore violence, but it’s just bullshit. This is exactly what they wanted to happen.
