The Atheist Missionary

Thank you Brother Sam!

While I am waiting for you to respond in some way, shape or form, I will recite The Atheist’s Prayer:
Our brains, which art in our heads, treasured be thy names. Thy reasoning come. The best you can do be done on earth as it is. Give us this day new insight to resolve conflicts and ease pain. And lead us not into supernatural explanations, deliver us from denial of logic. For thine is the kingdom of reason, and even though thy powers are limited, and you’re not always glorious, you are the best evolutionary adaptation we have for helping this earth now and forever and ever. So be it. (reproduced from friendlyatheist.com)

  1. Our thoughts
    And ideas in their millions
    Complete with memories
    Pictures and emotions
    Of a lifetime

    Obviously too numerous
To be contained in such a tiny head
    Even if only one atom
    Somehow magically
    Recorded only one thought
    Memory or picture each
Would not be enough to do the job

    The numbers prove the point
    The mathematics hold
That there is more to Man
    Than any religionist to date
    Or his Atheist opponent
    With all their great arguments
    Can explain

    Rather than argue
    And waste so much effort
    Trying to prove
    The unprovable imponderable
    Turn you rationale
    To explaining practical things
    As mundane as this
    And make a useful contribution
    To the knowledge of mankind

    Something, somewhere, somehow
    Stores memories
    Creates beauty and art
    Has dreams of achievement
    Feels emotions and pain
    Records experiences
    Knows it is alive

And the one thing it is certainly not
    Is a lump of meat
    Or a brain
